Technology and tectonic mitigation

We spent a double lesson last week exploring technology in use to plan, predict and prepare for earthquakes and volcanoes.
We tried to build up a grid of examples from small scale individual choices, to government-led campaigns.
Students need to have examples of how technology can reduce the impact of tectonic hazards.
Planning comes first, and this helps communities to predict and prepare.

Since the lesson, there was an excellent article in the Independent newspaper on the award to a Chinese man who developed an earthquake proof house design.
This is a reminder that it isn't just the wealthy who can be protected with a sustainable design.
